at 2.5m i dont think i would be entering the lagooon. i just looked at my readings and i have areas upon entrance that are less then 1.5
I have only been there once, a couple of weeks ago. As long as it is high tide you would make it through. Just. Once in, there is deep water.
The other option is to anchor outside in the shallows to the west of the entrance. Assuming it is an easterly.
I have only been in there the once when it blew 30kts outside
but normally just stay out on the reef to fish.I couldnt beleive the entrence
and how many bombies were out the front.
Because i had never been into it and the bouys were off there normal positions
we nearly come a gutza if it wasnt for the other boats entering that called out to us.
I found it shallow and would be worried about a boat that draws as much as yours.

there are bommies at the entrance that would make it hard in a windy day, however you can anchor outside the lagoon quite close. I estimate it is about about 8m wide at the entrance with not much room for error. I also think you will only get in and out on high tide. Once in there there are also a couple of isolated bgommies that are clearly seen in the day. If you can get in you wont be disappointed. The route is clearly visible on high tide in the day, especially from a flybridge. If you look at the video I posted in the reports section 1770 meet and greet I film part of the entrance ion my camera.

this is the info Phill (with 2 L's) generously provided in the lead-up to the M&G - I plugged it in and worked a treat but wouldn't suggest trying it in the dark for the first time
there's definitely shallow water either side of the narrow entrance that rips through with the tide which could cause difficulty - top of the tide would be the go and there are a number of mooring ropes to tie off on that I'd assume wouldn't see you parked on top of a bommie as the tide receded - as Marty said it's well worth it once you're in there

No problems with the entrance provided you take care as there is a false entrance. Get yourself a copy of Patricks "Cruising the Curtis Coast" which covers from Bustard head nth to just south of Mackay.
I was in there in a trailer boat a few weeks ago. It is a much more difficult entrance than say Lady Musgrave. Draft will not be an issue and you would have to do on it slack water in reasonable weather conditions. I would take our 56'er in under the right conditions but I would be very careful and I would imagine a few anxious moments. In my opinion LM is a much more atractive location to be moored for a few days

we're in trailer boats but the marks will set you up on a good track to take you safely inside - the entrance is quite narrow so you don't have much choice but if you stick to the line there's plenty of depth - once inside you'll need to have a set of eyes on the bow watching for bommies especially if you're not on high water

I am doing the same, leaving the Gold Coast, Marina Mirage, this coming weekend, 9th or 10th, going to Musgrave and Fitzroy, for about a week in a 52ft Riv. I got on this site to look for info, and saw you were doing the same. It would be good to have a chat, and compare notes. G-Day Scruffy,have grabbed your mobile number and will try and give you a ring Thursday sometime. Boat is moored at Rosslyn bay or keppel bay marina they like to call it,we will be heading off 9th or 10th, the tide is a shocker at mouth of marina.depends on weather but probably couple days at keppel then was thinking out to Northwest Is for a couple then head south, Fitzroy to lady Musgrave and back to maybe Pancake. But no set plans at all, we have just over two weeks to see where we end up.
Hope to hear before we leave the Gold Coast, either Sat / Sunday. Will probably overnight in Mooloolaba,
Sat night. I have been checking the weather, and it looks like being a fantastic week. Been in Pancake a few times and love it, but so do the midges! Last time there we could have shovelled the dead ones over the side they were that thick. I now have a few tried and tested marks to fish around Fitzroy, for Hussar, Reds and Trout. We will be on Ch.16, call sign SEA KING 1V. No phones out on the reefs unfortunately. (don't have a sat phone). Scruffy.
PS, forgot to say, the mate of mine I got the marks off has a 26ft shark cat, with o/boards, and enters the Fitzroy Lagoon often. He is of the opinion that we will not have a problem, just need to take care. I also have the phone number for a local pro fisherman who is in and out of there all the time, and I will ring him tomorrow for his thoughts on the lagoon, otherwise, we will travel up there to fish for a while then head back to Musgrave. Have been in Musgrave before in this boat without a problem.
