A few fish from the Pine

Had a look at the Pine this morning. Had a quick try for lizards first with some live herring. Only got one (51cm) in about an hour and a half, so switched to chasing some bream with the tide rising to a reasonable high. They were a bit quiet too considering the conditions were quite favourable. Kept 10 fish and released another three in about two hours. Quality was OK without being outstanding - two best fish both went 35cm. Quit about 11.00 a.m. Fair bit of traffic about (school holidays?) which might have been why things were a bit quiet.

MudRiverDan - All the bream caught on prawns. Can't wait until the weather warms up a bit and I can get some live prawns again.

    Freeeedom,

Another good day by the looks. I tried last Sunday with a couple of mates but only managed one good lizard on a frozen prawn. We did not get a hit on the live herring or mullet.

When do the prawns usually start? I'm pretty keen to give them a go again.

Great work mate, I was out Tuesday and couldn't raise a fish trying every soft plastic known to man. Did chat to a nice guy anchored near the bridge who had 3 nice lizards on unweighted pillies on the edge of the channel. My old man and I did manage 13 nice sandies and a stray black as as the ace of spades muddie though.

    Congrats again mate

I was down at West End boat ramp a week ago and was casting for bait about 2 hours before high, was getting 10 prawns a cast and at least 5 of them where big ones.
Had my bait in about 15 minutes.

    cheers

Usually start to get a few when the weather warms up a bit Dave. Been checking out the spots I showed you in the Pine but haven't found any yet. Shouldn't be too long though.

Freeeedom, If I ever got a day to pick your brains I reckon I would qualify for a pHd in fishing the pine. You seem to kill it every time. Nice work, again!

Freeeedom - great stuff again... i am heading out there on saturday if weather permits. Gonna try some live herring and small prawns. LIke you i cant wait for the prawns to run again... If you dont mind me asking, are you anchoring or drifting?

Re: A few fish from the Pine

I usually anchor during the main part of the tidal run, Kingcray - since I don't have a leccie to hold position, and then drift as the tide slows for the turn.
