Has the all weed floating in the Broadwater been flushed out yet?

Last week i went out, and found that there was a heap of this 'snot weed' pretty much the whole way from the seaway to tiplers, (could've been up further). I was just wondering if anyone knows if its settled and disappeared yet?

Alright so by the sounds of it, its still around which sucks because it makes fishing ridiculously hard.
Like those who replied above, it would be great if someone could shed some knowledge as to what causes this weed to form and why, as well as for how long it should hang around for.

Yeah that weed is still lingering around in mass. Last night I went for a rock hop around the Sea Way. I had just a few casts and later wound in, with, never ending sticky clump's of broken down weed.

My once clean line resembled a land clearing drag line, nothing but lumps and bumps of frustrating CRAP....ARGHH time too move on.

Hi Dylan, as the boys have said it is still pretty bad and will be around for a little while yet.

As for where it comes from, it is a a slimy weed that grows on the ribbon weed in winter, the ribbon weed beds between Wavebreak north to the Pin are the worst areas.

As the water temperature rises it dies and breaks off, this happens every year at this time and most of us are used to it but still hate it.

Just stay in your Nerang and you will be right, no weed in there, just plenty of fish.

I am not a scientist, the above opinion just comes from my own observations of the area, cheers wayne

Thanks Youngy, Yeah, we went out with plastics a couple of weeks ago looking for flathead, but only got 2 keepers because the weed was unbearable. So ive gone out twice in the last week looking for whiting up my way and managed to get 9 good whiting (most over 30cm) 1st trip, and 15whiting 2nd trip including 1 that went 40cm (My biggest yet, such a good fish). All fish caught on wrigglers. Based on previous years do you think that weed will be gone in a couple of weeks? or months? Thanks Mate.

Hi Dylan, nearly always gone by the end of this month, boys fishing Flathead Classic said there had been a big improvement over the last couple of days, cheers wayne

I was at the Flathead Classic, and I spoke to a few boys who had come up from Lake Macquarie etc. They called it "Cold Water Weed" down there, and the consensus is that it arrives with the drop in water temps in Winter, and then really lifts when we start getting temps of 20+ degrees.

My experience is that the Flathead start to get quite active at temps of 22 degrees, and by this time, most of the snot weed is gone.

We found that it was not a huge bother for us in the comp, but we just knew where to go to avoid it.

As for the classic - there were 185 boats and 450 anglers... 17 kegs of beer gone, but I don't know how many rums....
