Longtail tuna in mooloolaba question
Hi everyone
I have seen in some recent fishing reports that there are longtail tuna in the bay at mooloolaba - I'm after a starting point if anyone is willing.... Mooloolaba bay is pretty big and I've never chased these before - when they say mooloolaba bay are we talking just inside the bay as you go out of the mouth or do you need to head out more - I've only got a 12 foot tinny so dont want to venture out to far
Thanks

Re: Longtail tuna in mooloolaba question
There was a day when I went out less than 300 metres from the end of the mouth of the mooloolah river and hooked up to three tuna. Sadly I didn't bag any but that is the truth. Just as a note, the weather was absolutely terrible with 5 metre waves out the front and at least 25 knotts of southerly wind but that little bit out there was just wet from all the rain and as flat as due to the protection from the Point Cartwright headland.
Check the conditions and only go to that point where you are confident and not one inch further.
Cheers

They've been all over the place, right off the rock walls some days, a few miles out at other times and a few weeks ago past the 50m line.

Hi tanyap,as smithy said, they could be any were, you have to be willing to clock up a few miles.Look for individual boils rather than the bigger schools, this doesnt mean they dont school of course but ive found the better fish stalking a single boil and a very stealthy approach, good luck. Cheers.
