Thread: Anyone heard of a "black snapper"?

Anyone heard of a "black snapper"?

Went on a charter out of the Seaway yesterday with the daughter as a Father's Day present.

One of the fish to come over the side looked like some sort of trevally to me; about 30cm long and quite dark skin, but one of the deckies called it a black snapper.

Anybody heard of one of these? Couldn't find anything on Google under "black snapper".

As for a report, well, have you read any of Pinhead's reports about bream fishing at Caloundra?

Trevallys in the USA are called snappers I think, could be a pickup of yankee lingo yet again invading our Aussie fishing.
Searching thru google images brings up grassy sweetlip in WA are called black snapper too, could be a WA imported guide??

If it looked like a trevaley it was probably a sweep. Typical charter operators down the coast calling a S@#t fish a name the sounds decent.
