Wavebreak Island - any hints on where to fish for what?

My younger son has bought his first ever new fishing tinny and is mad keen to catch "something" or "anything".

He can launch the boat close to Wavebreak Island but as I have never fished that part of the lower Bay, hoping somebody here could give me a very rough - not exact - idea on where, how, etc. to fish around the island.

Bait wise, I was going to take along some small green prawns, cut up mullet fillets, ox heart strips (whiting) and some dried blood worms I use for the upper part of the Bay. Are these any good or do whiting down there prefer sea worms?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Mate try the pipe line on the same side as the VMR tower but to the west of it. There is a small concrete patch on the shore n the pipe runs across the seaway there. Look out if u anchor there cause u might not get it back

    Good luck

Mate I got some nice bream there n sometimes you can get the odd silver trivially as well. Never got lizards there. Heard of some Jew coming off there at night as well. Mate was using 15 lb braid last time we went floating a pillie and got busted off twice. Just couldnt stop what ever it was

Anyone serious about fishing the seaway should get onto this site. Craig owns this site and its just about all his experience of fishing the seaway and surrounding areas. Craig eats, sleeps and lives for the seaway and theres plenty of very useful info on there.

The pipe line is a great spot but if it's his 1st boat (also we don't know how big, tinnie?) I'd be careful fishing and anchoring there on a run out tide, at least until he gets to know the boat and gets some experience anyway. At this time of year there's plenty of flathead around down there, drifting around Wavebrake on the run in, and aroung Crab Il on the top and run out should be good with pillies or flesh, or throwing plastics. If you get a yabbie pump you can pump them on most of the banks at low tide, they're great bait for just about everything down there. Have a look at Young's column in Bushn'Beach magazine each month, he always covers whats biting where on the Gold Coast Broadwater.
