Overnight security ( for expensive FF) when camping

Have an expensive FishFinder that I do not want to go missing while over night camping or in the backyard of a friends place by the river. We will normally be in a Motorhome within 5m of the boat so should hear an alarm go off

Previously had a mat that if you stood on it would set off an alarm, am think more of a proximity detector eg for the grand kids, the wife has a green frog near our front door and it crooks when you walk past.

Have storm curtains so that a vehicle or anyone walking by will not set the alarm off. Sometime ago bought a sensor/alarm in one unit but was not suitable.

Would appreciate your experience in this area.

What does it say about the society in which we live, where honest hard working fisho's need to turn to alarms for boats and electronics. Sad state of affairs I think.

I have an FCV585 that I take out of the boat when not in use but I also have a flush mounted HDS10 which causes me constant stress parked beside the house all day while working. I know there are a number of boats that have custom lockable covers for their dash which perhaps I should have considered during the build. Never really looked at alarm systems so would be interested in following more suggestions in this thread.

I know a guy that set a car alarm into his boat, activated by voltage changes. He fitted a led light for each circuit into the control box and whenever anything is disconnected the voltage changes setting off the alarm. He did this so he could prep the boat the night before a trip without having to load up at 3am waking the neighbors, now his alarm does that for him.

Or (my favourite) you can get an alarm that sends a message to your mobile so that you can catch the pricks in the act:

Re Marto78, the $22 buck alarm is similar to the one I have previously tried out that was not successful, but this being a different unit may be better so for $22 bucks I will try it out.

Re the alarm that sends a message to your mobile, have installed that in our caravan so when we are away from our van when bush camping if the van is moved out of an electronic fence ( as determined by GPS) the unit sends a message to my mobile and using google earth I can watch the van going down the road. Have hidden this in the van so is hard to take out. Years ago cost me $900 now have seen them on the bay for around $300 not so optioned up but will still do the job, and of course about $60 a year for Big T Sim card access.

I take my shitty little fishfinder out overnight (along with every damn thing else) when away on trips staying in caravan parks, nothing is safe anymore. I have a mate who has tried out a couple of portable alarm systems for the boat whilst camping, I will suss out what he is using these days.

I have recently had people go through my boat while it was parked under my car port right out side my front door,thankfully my hds10 is removable and is currently locked in my gun safe!!.

This prompted me to think of a way to alarm my boat,im an industrial electrician by trade and i wired a 120db siren with battery back up through a omron timer that is triggered by two (IR) infrared sensors that cross diagonally through the center of the cockpit,if the beams are broken it will sound for 30 seconds and if they are broken twice it will sound for a further minute,

Im hoping this will scare the crap out of someone and hopefully they will jump out of the boat and break a ankle or something worse!
