    hard body help

I am just starting to get into the whole lure fishing thing and was just after some help I am about to start investing in lures etc what I was wondering if you could choose only 5 to 10 lures for fishing for bream flathead whiting in the esturies what lures including size and colour would you put in your lure bag or box most of my fishing is done in st georges basin but once I bring my boat back up to Sydney will also be fishing the georges and botany bay a fair bit too

Halco scorpion 35's A gold one and a pink one
River to sea baby crank 30's like the light coloured one and the one with a bit of purple
Atomic crank 38's one shallow one medium like the nearly clear or purple backed ones
River to seas bubble pop baby, any with a light coloured belly (other colours dont matter, the fish cant see em from underneath)

Those lures will catch all three of your target species, you'll need a 1000 series reel and a 2 or 3 kilo rod to cast them well though.

yes it will, flathead will hit most lures, time, tide and location.

Not a big bream fisho myself.

I'm a fan of Bombers when chasing flatties. Awesome action when bouncing along off the bottom. If you feel a snag just stop and let it float off. I've also had a bit of luck with Warlock's, though I find they tend to snag quite easily.

I find plastics alot easier to use then hard, but try any of the atomic range, cranks, shads or bream shad. I like most the clear natural colors. Have a look at bubble pop 45 and scumdogs for your surface work. Your setup should cast them fine too mate.

If your after plastics I like using 100mm wrigglers( bloodworm, lava, evil minnow) and 3" powerbait minnows ( pearl watermelon Casper clear, bloodworm) I use mainly #1 1/8th and 1/16th. Jigheads can be found
              Cheap from big w.

I generally use 4lb braid 6lb leader on my light sticks sometimes 10lb if only chasing bigger flatties.

All you need for flattie are pink with silver stripes micro mullets, and for bream is Bassday kangoku shads

For chasing bream with hardbodies you cant go past the Cultiva Mirashad. They also catch flathead, tailor, snapper and yesterday a whiting!

For surface lures try the 70mm Prial First pencil - deadly action and only about $9 each...

                        Re: hard body help

If you want a cheap alternative, look for some Baby Attack lures or Baby Merlin lures for bream, they were yesterdays flavour and work very well and cost about 1/3rd of the current lures that are currently hot property.
Manns Stretch 5 and Stretch 10 are good flathead hard bods and reasonably priced.

Almost any deep diver in the 75-100mm lengths from BigW will see the flathead feeding. Do not be afraid to use short fat bodied deep divers for flathead too, they work very very well in gold, reds and brown colours, especially in the rivers.

From the current "hot" must have lures on sale, I can't recommend anything that is a good buy price wise, I am not convinced they will out catch some of the earlier lures by any real margin, more designed to catch the fisherman in the shop.
                        Jack.

I like jackall chubby's and i've had some recent success on a lucky craft pointer it's gold and black.

A mte has just put me onto Tilsan Bass lures for flathead (look them up online). Apparently they were the gun lure for the Gold Coast flathead classis a few years ago. They dive to 4.5+ mtr's with a nice profile. I will be getting half a dozen of those.
