    Shimano Baitrunner 12000D Spinning Reel

    Hi Ausfisher's

Thinking about grabbing one of these while I am here in the states to bring home. I can get one for around $190. Your thoughts on something comparable in price, quality and function? Am onto a good thing here or look elswhere?

Edit - Thinking of using for surf and possibly offshore if the bomb thrower ever lets me get a boat.

    Thanks in advance.

I think the Baitrunner is a good reel, not exactly a Swiss watch, but still plenty robust enough to last for ages, I did read somewhere that the new ones are not as good as the old ones, can't remember where I saw that, or even if it is true! Also not too sure on the price here, $190 does not seem like a super bargain to me, well enough to want to cart one to the other side of the world.

Hey mate, one other thing. The next cheapest I have found is ebay at $162 plus tax and shipping ($40) so around the same price. Any tips on a cheaper option?

The fish in my avatar was caught with a $40 dollar Okuma aquios.

Caught a 1 meter threadfin on the same reel.

Nope I reckon the bait-runner would be fine as long as your going to be getting some use out of it.

    Still shop around though.

You can get one for USD$190 with free shipping to your door from an online supplier in the USA with a Url that starts Reel and then followed by fishing,no space followed by deals with a dot com after that.

I have done same in the past and they were a damn fine supplier.

I also have both the old series baitrunner and the D series and cannot tell much difference except that the D series has a nicer handle.

    Hi Funchy,

I have a 12000D along with a couple of old 6500B Baitrunners. I personally prefer the 6500's. A couple of guys I fish with that bought their 12000D'S at the same time as me have already had warranty issues, one reel being beyond repair with internal damage and was replaced under warranty. Both guys have bought another 6500 after selling their 12000D's. Hope this helps mate.

    Cheers

    Luke

I have a 12000 and have had no issues with it. I love it and pulled a red emp last week that was very sizeable. Great on the reef ; i use the bait runner to stay connected to the bottom. drag works well! 50lb braid.
