    Bassday Wanderlei

This is the blurb that goes with the Bassday Wanderlei Surface popper-

"The Bassday Wanderlei is a popper with a difference. As well as the usual characteristics of a popper this lure has a scooped face making it dive under each pop. This makes it look like an injured fish trying to swim back down but just floating back to the surface. The action of the Bassday Wanderlei will make it extremely useful when the are sitting just under the surface unwilling to take a normal popper"

I Liked the look of this popper and was going cheap at an online store so I grabbed one a few weeks ago.

I can't say I am overly impressed with it's surface action.
These are just my observations and I may have had issues due to only have braid with a fluro leader.

Firstly it didn't produce a nice little surface splash like a bubble pop.
At a distance all it did was dive under then back to the surface.
I did get it to make a few bloops now and then but in general the action was very passive and I could only imagine using this for bass on a glassed out quiet lake were something like that would get noticed by a fish.
It didn't really make enough of a splash or realistic movement for my liking.
Anyone else used one with some success?

Would a mono leader be useful or would I have to use mono straight through for the desired floating line effect?
Personally I get good action out of a bubble pop and even Luckycraft Bevy pencils and Sammys with just a braid/fluorocarbon leader. From my own personal observations mono sinks, not sure why people say it floats.

The lure will be good for the odd occasion I decide fish the Hinze for Bass, other than that, not too sure.

The flourocarbon will sink a hell of a lot faster than the same size mono. If it's a rather small surface lure or a surface lure that's meant to dive a inch or two under and pop up it won't be very buoyant at all and the flourocarbon will certainly smoother it's action. Sometimes fishing for bream if I'm too lazy to change the leader I'll just cut off a jighead and tye a little surface on to the fluro leader. It wil work ok but if I pause it for more than a couple of seconds the leader will start to sink, so for the next couple of draws it's actually pulling the lure on a downward angle. And remember, the heavier the fluro the faster it will sink. Give mono a try and see how it goes. The braid will float well so just use a short 1 mtr leader. I don't think you'll need it but if you're still having probs try a few drops of floatant on the leader, you can get that at any store with a lot of fly gear. Hope this helps.
