every inch that i raise the front, the motor just drops further as the skeg moves out from the chocks.
i may have to go the hoist route with 4 stands, but where to attach the lifting point?
if flywheel, how?

I am making a lifting lug for this outboard and need to know the exact spacing dimension of the 3 threaded holes on top of the flywheel to make this happen.
Yes, I can easily remove FW and create a template, but it will cost me another $150 to get it torqued back up by the boat dealer. I don't want to go down this path.
I measure 60mm center to center spacing, but accuracy is not guaranteed.
I also measure 35mm from crankshaft center to center of the 3 threaded holes, but again I cannot guarantee accuracy.
Anyone have a catalogued dimension of these holes to validate my measurements for this motor??

Cant you get 3 bolts that fit and weld some chain onto each bolt head so you can hook them up to a shackle or something.
yeah - I am gettign something fabbed up tomorrow morning.
I will make a 90 x 90 x 15 flat bar block with 3 holes to match the 3 holes in the flywheel.
I will then weld or make a threaded hole in center of this block to mount/screw in a threaded eye lug.
The bolts will pass through top of this block and into the flywheel.
I will then pull up motor via the lug.
I am hoping this idea will work....
I will also be collectign the engine hoist tomorrow morning..

Success -
I managed to fit the new tube, but have not connected up steering yet, as I have a query regarding the lock nuts at either end of the tube.
There is not enough thread on the tube to fit Items 92 and 44 - as per assy shown
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/BR...ION/parts.html
I do not know if there is a mistake on the assy or I am missing something???
Any thoughts?

The BRP website shows #92 as a recommended wiper nut, I think it's either one or the other Splash. (#44 or #92)
I just checked my motor and it appears to only have one domed nut, it looks sort of like a nylock nut.
How many nuts did you take off?
on this port side - there were no nuts to take off form the outset.
I do not know what happened to them, but this is why the tube somehow found itself only half installed after receiving it form the transporters 1 year ago..??

Ah that's right the truckies ripped your nuts off OUCH!
So did the parts place send you a new pair? A #44 & #92?
Does it look like you should be only using one of them?
Have you bought that genuine manual yet to find out the procedure for torquing & backing off your nuts?
hi fed, and all.
just wanted to say thank you for your assistance with this one.
Finally, fixed the nut issue and re-installed the steering, now much smoother.
It has been a big effort!

Now, with everything back together, a flat spot exists in the steering at the start of any time I start to turn the wheel, for about 20-30 degrees rotation.
I have to turn the wheel without any resistance this amount of rotation before I feel any resistance and then begin to turn the motor with the wheel.
I want to get rid of this delay/lag in steering.
THoughts?

you havent done the nut up tight on the steering tube.

Both nuts are pretty tight on both sides.
which nut ar eu referring to?
20-30 degrees is a lot Splash, I thought you put a new cable & helm in?
Check your manual to get the right tension & back off for the tilt tube.
Make sure the outer sheath of the steering cable is secured at both ends especially the helm.
Have you got NFB steering?
thanks guys - i am pretty sure all nuts are tightened, and will check when it gets lighter this AM.
Yes - new cable and helm installed.
How to ensure outer sheath of steering cable is secured at both ends, especially the helm?
I will have a look at a manual to understand how to get the right tension & back off for the tilt tube....
