Is there such a thing as outboard MSBP?
I am guessing this pin is Item 49 in schematic below?

    http://www.boats.net/parts/search/BR...ION/parts.html

If so, I have located it on my motor.

How do I knock the pin out with the minimal clearance existing between either stern bracket, not enough to get a hammer in....?

And, when this pin does get removed, how will this action assist with alignment, and how easy is it to put back in place?

At this stage I would remove the engine from the boat... repair then re install engine... if you have cables long enough you wont need to disvconnect them just hang the engine on the hopist 1/2 m away from the hull.

I use lithium based grease in the tilt tube.. it also comes in spray form so you can undo tyhe cable nut and spray in the tube... best way of lubricating it.

    Thanks Spaniard King.

Do u recommend I remove that pin Fed refers to?

What rating hoist should I be hiring?

What brand lithium grease should I be acquiring?

Is there anything else (besides the tube) that needs to be removed to allow the engine to be free from the transom?

Re: Stiff Steering - Even After New Mechanism Installed

no-one can provide me the tripod/A-frame block n tackle type hoist.

Instead, only a car engine hoist can be supplied (that slide over top of engine bay for example).

So, what can I use to lift the outbaord off the transom?

I am also advised that I need a special attachment to fit onto the flywheel - to lift the motor - is this correct?

    Anyone please?

an engine hoist will be fine, most motors have a lifting ring on them. if not just make something.

The clearance is 1.52m for the hoist.

I am not at home to measure the height of the outbaord from the ground, but I do not liek my chances...

PLease confirm if I need to lift the outbard from the flywheel ONLY.

lift it from inside the boat, then the lift will be high enough....... lol.
You sound a bit like me when it comes to mechanical stuff. Something simple and should take maybe 1-2hrs to fix takes days and ends up costing more then getting someone else to do the job in the first place !!

Hope you get it all sorted ASAP

You can take the weight off the motor quite often by winding down the jockey wheel as far as it will go and then block up under the skeg and then wind the jockey up as far as it will go which will lower the ass end of the boat leaving the motor supported on the chocs you placed under the skeg.
This may give you the clearance you need to do the job otherwise once the jockey is up you can go further again by setting up a jack to get the front up even higher than what the jockey wheel goes.
Tie off the motor with some ropes to each corner of the boat to stop it trying to lay over sideways.

    great idea.

what size block (Dimensions) do u rec and what material (wood or somethign else)?

shoudl the outbaord be fully trimmed down before jockey wheel is lowered?

anything thats solid is fine to fill the gap between the ground and skeg.Wood, bricks ect and its only gotta be big enough to be stable.
Motor and jockey wheel fully down first, fill the gap and tie off the motor to stabilize it and then wind up the jockey wheel until the motor weight is just off the boat.
Its an easy safe way to do it as long as you jockey wheen winds up far enough which most do.

    Thanks.

I do have sufficient support on either side to tie my motor down, so I'll play tonight...

    well.

I managed to jack the motor up via that jockey wheel method and then removed the center tube.

The motor has dropped, and now I cannot raise it again because the tube is out. The motor is tied to the boat.

When I try to jack motor up the motor just slides out away from transom - on the blocks supporting the skeg, and does not rise.

I don't know what to do now.

The clearance between the bottom of the top member of an engine hoist and the flywheel is none, as it is about 70mm too short (to comfortably go over top of flywheel)...

Can you lift the front of the trailer anymore.
If you can lift it by hand or a jack you can wind the jockey wheel up and put a brick under it to give you more adjustment using the jockey wheel.
If not make 4 stands out of bricks or something to go under the legs of the hoist to lift the hoist uphigher
