    Home made Strike Cam

Had a crack at making a strike cam to tow behind the boat when trolling ... here's its first mackerel on its second trip out. Still refining the process. Use to feel bumps on the bait and thought they were tailling the gar but it seems they ram it to stun it then come back to finish them off.

Very cool! They don't come back for the head on mine like that when they have sliced the body off! Ben

$150 for camera part and $100 for something to record the footage

Mounted a camera to a paravane which is exactly what the $3k version is. Still ironing out bugs and trying to get the bait to swim unattached to the vane. It was diving too low and the recorder is about the size of an iphone so hard to see where the bait is. Clean water is hard to find as well. Still a work in progress

    Top effort.

I really found that footage very revelling. I was surpirsed at just how long they followed it and sussed it out. Also the manner of the attack, it explains a hell of a lot.

Any chance you can post up here (or separate thread) photos and write up on your tow cam?

    thanks

When I sort out all the bugs I'd be glad to - just holding off because i don't want anyone wasting money if it doesn't happen to work out. As usual - finding time is the hard part.
