More Great Hervey Bay Flattie fish'n

Katrina was keen to get a few more flatie tails after last weeks session with Brett so we hit the Hervey Bay flats again .....

Treen opened her account with a little mackerel that wasn't quick enough to bite her off !

Treen stuck with our go-to lure - 100mm Squidgy Fish in black & gold on 2/0 9 gram head

The quality has been fantastic with most fish averaging 50+cm

So Many Fish - So little time !

She actually landed 4 beautiful fish over 70cm which where released ...... These bigger fish really put on quite a show in the shallow water with quite a few eating the lure with-in sight of the boat !

Had to empty the well twice through out the day again - can you spot the snoger whiting

I stuck with the ever faithful 100mm Squidgy wriggler in bloodworm & was rewarded with half a dozen thumping whiting between 30cm - 40cm !

It was a great day with plenty of fish & ended up with a feed of tasty tails & whiting - How Good Is Hervey Bay

Nice work, great haul. Just a question Scott, what technique do you use with the fish, slow lift / hop or fast whip??? Cheers, Jamie.

I am just wondering why you would keep so many flatties in the livewell at once given the time of year and their breeding habits. You also mentioned that you had to empty the livewell twice....why?
If you dont eat them then why put them through that?

Toddy - We never hold any more fish than our bag limit for the species allows at any time and find that you will often shut down other fish in the area if you release them as you go - not just flathead either We handle all our fish with care & would not carry so many fish in the well as to stress them out - we also released these fish not far from the area we caught them before moving on.

We do eat a few as well with a preference for the ones around 50-60cm being my pick

    So many flathead - Scotto

Jamie - we prefer the double whip when using the fish - although not a big hop as we are generally fishing quite shallow water.
