hi bull, new moon should be a morning bite period and full moon is a late arvo or night, depends on time of tide mainly.but have had days where this theory is wrong, thats fishing.

Personally, I pay very little attention to the moon phase apart from when I'm planning a squid session, moon + squid = zero results.
My point of view is that fish need to feed every day, usually several times a day. Select the prime feeding time for the day you are fishing and make an educated guess as to what they will be feeding on at that time.
I am also fairly partial to the solunar cycles and hot bite periods. Apart from dawn and dusk (biggest and 2nd biggest feed periods per day) the time when the moon is directly above or directly below generally improves the bite period. If you can couple dawn with a change of tide plus moon at 12 o'clock you will be on a really big bite period, you still have to nut out the location and presentation to get the results though.
That being said, I have also had a few outstanding results from outside of those bite periods, not as many as when they align though.
Hey Bull, I go fishing when work allows, lawns mowed, the sea's good, the bars flat, i've got crew, wife is happy, and children are looked after. If i start worrying about the hot bite period then i'll be lucky to ever go!! BUT if i had a choice i like morning sessions on the up side of a new moon (first couple of days) and arvo sessions coming off the full moon. An old pro fisho who works for my familly has always maintained this and basis my results over the years i would agree. Take moon out of it then your back with the old dawn/dusk thing on the reef, tide change in the middle of the day for gamefishing.
