Where abouts are you and what sort of Billies are you chasing? That outfit would vastly outgun most SEQ Blacks that turn up in close but would be pushing it on a big Blue outwide
i am after some advice on tackle for billfish, i was looking at getting a 2speed TLD or tyrnos reel with possibly a backbone elite 24kg, and am also unsure if i should go fully rollered or just the tip, any advise would be great

I just bought a Tyrnos 20 (single speed) with a cheapish Rod with a rollered tip. Plan to custom build my own better rod later on. Have to say the Tyrnos is a fantastic reel out of the box. Drag is very nice and the lever really does let you apply the drag nicely. It holds 500m of the pink platypus 15kg on the button.

G'day,
Up in Gove a Tyrnos 20 and 8-15kg roller tip rod spooled with 8 or 15kg line will be perfect.
8kg will take care of most of the fish there no worries. 15kg will give nice short fight times.
Good luck and have fun!

Tyrnos 20 or 30 spooled with 8kg for your light tackle, you do not need a 2 speed reel it is a waste of money. tld's are old technology go the far better reel, 15kg rod is fine for 8kg but 15kg outfit you will have green fish at the boat. If you are only chasing small blacks & sails you need to be aware of that! you will get them to the boat quickly. I use the tyrnos 30 myself chasing billies, awesome reels highly recommend also the retrieve speed of the tyrnos is a big plus to gain back your line.

IF you are serious about chasing them and want gear to last years and hundreds of fish, then as with anything, you get what you pay for. Until 3 years ago I always used TLDs out here, they worked fine and lasted a while (keep the servicing up). A few years back I won a tiagra 16 and started using that. I had always thought it was a bit of a w@nk blokes using them for light tackle fishing- that was until I used one myself. I now have 2 16s and cant bring myself to use anything else now when i dont need to. Having the confidence to set the drag at 3kg (on 8kg) and be able to push the drag to sunset when ever you want knowing you will be fishing with about 4.5kg of drag is great.
With the way the AUD is at the moment they wont break the bank buying one from the states.
As for rods, Garry Howard 8kg interceptor is my choice.
