That's one big cod, and a good feed of pearlies.
Maturity is not when we start speaking BIG things,it is when we start understanding small things
Good feed of pearlies do you know what kind of cod that is?
not sure what sort of cod that is??
its a stumpy looking thing.... do you know what length it was??
I caught an estuary cod a few years ago that was 1195mm long and weighed 28kg.
Is it a Bar cod?? hard to tell once they die what species they are.
Ask your mates, Would love to know.
Nice Haul your mates got
Looks like a Bar Cod to me

That's why they implement green zones because fish like that would be ripped from the water and the system degraded within a few weeks.
Don't get your hopes up mate they don't exactly come in schools at 1.3 meters.
You should really know your cod species before taking them.
conisidering i wasnt on the boat, i just got these sent to me from a mate. For all i know they did know the species. Dont get my hopes up about what, i was qouting my estimate of the size of the fish and sayin ill have to get on to em meaning my mates to get the stats on the cod in relation to the above q's. .i doubt thats why they implement green zones mate cmon now. I totally agree with ur last statement though.
cheers mike
yes mate , we should know the cod species we are taking.
Sorry for the rant.
cheers
Looking at a picture of a Black Cod here, that one looks identical. At that size they tend to be fatty and not so great on the chew. But each to their own.Good bag of Pearlies and Wrasse.Jim

Yep I agree with Jim...Black cod for me as well. Pretty common off Straddie and a lot are caught while chasing pearlies in around the 100mtr mark. Apparently they are terrible eating that size and also protected in NSW.
Attached is one we got last year fishing wide off Fraser. He ate a pearlie being pulled up.
Unfortunately seeing they are caught from deep water most times they suffer from barotrauma very badly and survival rate is low.

Greg
thats what i was thinking as well greg, regarding the barotrauma as to why they might have kept it, but was reluctant to say anything.
thanks greg
