What is the best quality rod?

I know this question might be a bit broad, but the missus went and bought me a Stella 8000 as a surprise. Yes, I know, where did I find her?
I am usually a bit of a tight arse, but I don't want to buy a cheap rod as I wouldn't be doing the reel any justice. I have recenty acquired a boat to attack the reefs near Mackay, so I would be seeking advice for a suitable rod for fishing for sweetlip at night. I would be wanting to put the best reel on the best rod for the ultimate experience. This might sound funny but I am a handreel disciple, and rarely use rods, but I find them better for the sweetlip at night when the rumbos are flowing. (I realise that Stella 8000 might be an overkill, but I may conduct a swap for for it at the tackle shop for a smaller version.)

    Awaiting your valued advice!!

If your dropping baits it would certainly be beneficial if you had a lever drag overhead such as a Trinidad or Torsa. Makes life alot easier for putting baits on a spot rather then dropping, closing a bail arm and taking up slack.

Though like some(myself) you much prefer spin tackle. I have a Sustain 8000 on a Gary Howard GFX70XH. It is a absolute beast of a rod and light as well. 7 foot 20-40lb rating quick taper, tones of grunt. I run 50lb Sensor and the rod feels like it could run more.
Awesome stick, jones in brissie sell them for around $400-$500 mark. May not be as expensive as Megabass, Luckycraft, Evergreen, Smith etc but it is extremely well made and is made for tough environments and tough fish.

That would be something custom-made by Ausfish member Stuart, I'd wager.
Lovely reel mate, and a lovely gift from the Mrs, well done!
    Cheers.

Thanks fella's. I was reading through the neighbouring thread regarding Shimano quality. It sounds like T-curve might be the way to go??

Stu Mckenzie, Precisionrods.com makes top shelf rods.

He has made one rod for me, and I just received a new tag pole from Stu. Made from carbon and is 700grams for a 13'5" tag pole. The quality of the construction and finish is, as always, excellent.

I do have 2 Gary Howard rods also, and love them.

if you are after the best then no, t curves are not. they are good but far away from being the best. north fork composites blanks built by howard are awesome.

The best quality rod is the rod you are most comfotable with and lasts the distance. Talking specifications, Toray Japanese graphite is the benchmark. They make the graphite used in the Boeing and Airbus planes. Fuji K guides are cutting edge (titanium frames - top of the line). Don't believe this nano BS just marketing rubbish. Fuji HD reel seats or Alps lightweight reel seats are where it is at. Can't really beat all that gear for toughness or durability in high end gear. Glass rods will obviously out last everything but as heavy as. So price point really important. Look for companies that put the best in not the best BS out.

I like Gloomis because the rods are built for a specific purpose.
And have stood the test of time.

I would match it to a G-Loomis Pro Blue either the 12-25lb or 15-30lb model. Can pick one up from American Legacy in the US for $250-$300 shipped to your door. Awesome rods and take the rough and tumble of offshore fishing which is very important when choosing a graphite rod!
