cut and change plug on transducer cable?
Spoke to electroncs dude about changing the plug on the transducer cable to suit the new raymarine unit i bought.
He said no problem at all, so I'll get him to do that next week, however im a bit worried about it not going too well, as ive always thought the cable was never to be cut. Anyone do this? will it be a problem, or affect peformance?

Re: cut and change plug on transducer cable?
We don't cut them if we can help it, but yes it can be done.
Any joint will help to weaken a data signal by x%
If the joints are done properly - soldered in this case with individual heat shrink on each wire then it will be fine.
Make sure the extra shielding in the transducer wire (foil wrap and / or RF wire) are reconnected as well)
Then seal the whole lot with heat shrink over the top... also make sure the heat shrink extends say 100mm back onto the original transducer cable on each side to get a good seal.

Re: cut and change plug on transducer cable?
I just had sounder put on jet ski. Guy who install, cut the transducer cable, soldered it and heat shrinked it.
Only problem I have is that I lose the bottom picture are around 70-80kph. Shows the depth reading but not the bottom, but think that may be a sped problem. Lol.
Other than that all works fine
Cheers
