this patched up bunch of idealists with no mandate have lost the plot.on one hand they can shut down the live export industry with the stroke of a pen financially crippling many people because the indonesian goverment can't garrante slaughter protocol.if the same standards apply does this mean countries who haven't got a carbon tax in place should not be sold australian coal. might be a bit too much money at stake.they bitch and whine how bad coal is but not the royalties.hypocrites.thank god for andrew bolt.

Is there or is there not a coal powered power station in the pipeline to be built in Vic?

I think most people believe we can clean up our act a bit. But does anyone really believe charging companies for it will work? After all most companies are manufacturing with momentum towards clean without a tax. And would not a tax hinder there momentum?
And when we cant reclaim enough carbon credits we are going to encourage some other country to charge us?

But when I think about it.

20 million years ago this planet was a mass swarm of mossies with a carbon level much higher than what we have now. A thriving mass of insects and ferns and then it froze.
Through some miracle we kept spinning, all the ice fell off and we took off again only to have the sky fall in and wiping out the dinosours. But yet again we got our mogo back and away we went untill another good frost slowed things down again.
And just recently all the swamps filled up and killed all the trees that grew in them. Never guess what happened next. A hole opened up in the sky and Yep they dried up So we all shot out and cut a bit of wood off these swamps because someone said earlier that we were going to freeze again.
Now they tell us its going to get hot and the only way to fix it is to pay some crazy red head worship money.

I really think this planet is going to do what ever it wants no matter how many sacrificial donations we all make.

I recon this tax will eventually blend in with all the other taxes so we can never really figure out how much it costs us to just live here

For the life of me, I couldn't understand why anyone would support the idea of losing more money to another tax ... of any description.
    Then it occured to me.
    It's conscience money.
Most people, but particularly the young, have all been made to feel so damn guilty for just taking up space on this planet, that they consider paying some dollars for their sins against Gaia and her imminent destruction an easy and acceptable penance.

I sincerely doubt the majority of them would give a rats arse what happened to the money after they pay it. It's vitally more important to be given the opportunity to buy a clean conscience.

    Hey.. Here's an idea.
If everyone wants it, make it a voluntary contribution. Payroll deductions to the 'The End is Nigh' charity. Like the flood relief fund. Tax deductible. Corporate donations. Can sit in government coffers for years.
If so many are in favor, it should deliver roughly the same amount of cash as a compusory tax, hey?

Yep, when the Economy is depressed, JuliaR handbook says "Tax Them More." Anna's been reading it too. Here's a list feel free to add to it:

Flood Levy, Mining Tax, Carbon Tax, Registrations, Tolls. Add heavier regulation, it's just the most amazingly simple and effective stimulus to Business (hint: Business provides jobs) there's ever been. My stars, the current Governments are Geniuses!

Isn't the Flood Levy recouping the cost of drought proofing Qld

Can anyone tell me where the carbon tax money goes to??
Will it do anything worthwhile other then giving the dole bludgers another handout??

And to think everyone thought Robin Hood was a good guy ie taking from the rich and giving to the poor.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

They did give us $900 you know. And thats all gotta be payed back of course.

Dont forget the insulation thing, designed specificaly to encourage people build new houses. Good for jobs and economy. Another stimulus to business.

I don't mind the idea of the flood levy, conscience money, if it all followed the flood waters. But unfortunately there are those with their hands out for the wrong reasons.

Same as Julia. Can't help thinking this is all to pay the NBN and other bills.

And the cattle trade. No footage ever released of the accredited slaughter houses supplied by the likes of Elders (and others). One of the ones shown was a very small house.

I would love to see a clean up of the media like the UK, (Thanks Rupert) Present both sides of the argument for the people.

How low does a Government go before the Governor General puts a "please explain" on the desk of a loopy red head

As Thegurn said (and someone else) driven by the younger in society and born from seeds planted by the ill informed that target our kids.
I have said earlier, almost everyone believes we can clean up a bit more. its the method of clean up that we dis agree with and according to the pols a growing number are now also seeing things more clearly.

    Cheers, Stu

I liked bolts article in the sunday mail some time ago where he claimed that the ABC and SBS support global terrorism because of some of the doco's they were airing at the time..... I just cant understand why more people dont agree with the man?

I think it will go into the $2.4m / day interest on the loans the govt has taken out to supply the rorts that kept the nation employed in the past 700 days or so.

Also amazes me how persons like Tim Flannery gain any sort of credibility to become a noted member of society. His language may be English but he speaks fluent bullshit.

About the same time MD little Johny was trying to tell us his party believed in climate change.

Gee i wish the coalition would just come out with it and tell us they are not believers and hence drop there direct action policy and save taxpayers money.

To go to the next election with there direct action policy and then dump it once in government makes them no different to the current government, a lie in the lead up is still a lie regardless of your climate change stance.

Perhaps they could say it would have been political suicide in the current climate not to have a climate action plan before the election. That makes it ok I'm told
