Here are some pics of an 18foot Bass Cat Sabre. Fully kitted out with electric motor, sounders,115 proXS, live wells, Custom Bass cat trailer and then all the nav lights etc. Is a cracker of a rig. This boat is actually the prize boat of this years bream comps. Kinda makes me want to chase bream LOL. Maybe someting like this will suit you mate?????
Cheers
Matty
from what you are saying you want to be able to cover, i'd not bother with anything with a low steering position, ie. tiller steer, runabout or side console, as you'll want to be able to stand up when the going gets rough, especially over longer distances. but on the other hand if it's good conditions and you cover long distances a seat makes things more comfy.
i'd be looking at centre consoles, centre cabs or cuddies that have a stand up helm. also consider fishability as a trade-off against protection from the elements if you have to cover large distances. ie. the protection of a cabin vs. the fishability of a centre console with a seat box.
i'd be going fibreglass too for longer distances in rough conditions, you want weight, it won't handle being banged around on a rock bar like alloy will, but in my opinion it'll be more comfy over long distances in rougher conditions. that's why i suggested something like those hooker centre console style long boats or if you don't mind something a little older, haines hunter used to make a pretty cool centre console around the 5m mark, i can't rmember it's model number but someone on here will know what i'm talking about.
Yes you are right, this boat is two to three years old. Pretty similar though. It'd be nice to find the right rig second hand, but getting the fitout how you want it is always hard to find.
I see you are leaning towards a platey, make sure its a genuine platey, not a plate sided tinny - or go glass!!!
Cheers,
Matt

Yeh Matt ... It is hard finding what you want in a second hand boat - but since it is a boat that I would keep through the next decade ( with luck) I might as well get exactly what I want.
Thats part of why I'm asking opinions .........
Plate is what I'm probably more comfortable with ....... I've hit things with my hornet that make me shudder to think of what would have happened to a nice glass boat

Nothing made of alfoil that will rattle your teeth out.
Nothing with a mamby pamby pinko lezzo commo marketing name on it.
Nothing too heavy.
Nothing too flashy...as a general rule if the upholstery has more than 2 colours, then it cant handle any sort of sea.
No silly carpeted yankee catfish skateboards. You need a tub not a balance beam.
Maybe something with some fwd protection, even a small cabin.
yeah a 4.6-5m glass cuddy. Does everything.
Just remember that if you are crossing Moreton Bay regularly then an wide light tincan under 6m is going to cause a world of hurt. I would put up with a few grazes and let a keelguard earn its keep. It all depends on what you really want most out of the boat.

got to be glass... do you plan on hitting things???
I'd buy one of these Yankee catfish skateboards tomorrow if I had the cash! Skeeter ZX20 Bay - 90km/h easy, stable in the swell & stealthy around the snags. A shit hot crossover!
