    Snot weed in southern bay

Hi I was hoping to go fishing tonight but was wondering about the amount of weed in the water. I went out from Weinam Creek Redland Bay on Thursday and found a fair bit of weed around. Not enough to stop you fishing but enough to make it discouraging. Has anybody got any up to date reports on this situation for Macleay Island area?
    Thanks Mark.

There was a fair bit aroud the pin and near islands late this week, but not enough to stop you fishing. Numbers of fish dropped off from early in the week to later in the week though.

    Hi Mate,

Fished the Bribie ABT Flathead today and the weed was ridiculous, gave up on blades early on, get one lift then get coated!!!! Plastics copped the same but not as bad with only one hook point. Seemed worse at the Southern end of the passage, Cheers, Jamie.

Re: Snot weed in southern bay

As per the thread title hey.

Snot weed is actually dead 'salps". Salps multiply in number on a massive scale when there is a massive food resource. Salps feed on algae. So when there is a nutrient outfall such as the floods this year and algaes such as anaulus australis and lyngbya bloom, the salps have their food resource.
That doesn't help anyone of course, but explains why it's there.

A bit around in the Pine also. Enough to be a bit of a nuisance but not enough to stop you fishing. Hasn't seemed to have affected the fishing yet - still quite a few nice lizards about.
