Charon Point
Hi all,
Thinking of heading there and spending a few nights when the tides are good and am after some info on it. Have the 4by so no dramas in that regard but am wondering about towing the gurgler in there as well (12ft tinnie) and how rough the track in gets. Any advice about the place appreciated.
Cheers
Scott

Re: Charon Point
Hi Scott ,
i have just read this post . Have you been there before ? I ask this as it is a little easy to get lost on the way in . It is an easy slow drive but to camp there in summer is hard, hot and very little shelter from the sun . The ramp doesnt really exist ,it is a track full of large rocks that can be difficult to negotiate . Pick a weekend with southerly winds not northerlys as the waves on the out going tide stand up . This is the mouth of the Styx river and it is known for the super fast run in tide . Late afternoon is not the time to be on the water with the wind on it . The area is a huge system so a 12 foot tinnie ,even though i have taken one before , is on the small side . I would advise not to go without two boats . If something goes wrong there, no one will simply come and get you .

Hi rocklobster, thanks for the reply.
Nah never been there only checked it out on Google Earth and Hema so was thinking of doing a day trip in the car to check it out. Yeah we are taking two boats the other will be up top on racks on the other 4by, as we thought the same about going fishing by yourself and won't be traveling to far in them. We are looking at October/November so hopefully not to bad for the sun. Slow going is good as we can sit back and enjoy the countryside on the way in and out, and yeah heard about the tides so definitely will be planning a trip around some of the smaller runs. Thanks for the tip about the wind to always good to know as have been looking at a few maps of the area and could imagine it blowing up. Again thanks for the info mate.
