    Almost finished

I almost never wrap with NCP thread but when I received a package of Pro Wrap I had to give it a go. I decided on an Outs and Ins pattern on a blank with a really savage taper - 10mm over the length of the wrap. The calculations almost did my head in but ended up pretty close. The green star was wrapped in Mettler polysheen. I tried my first olive branches and learnt a little from them. The next ones will be better.

    Re: Almost finished

Thanks guys. I was really happy with this one although I had a few problems closing it. Willo I will have to CP the wrap because the green threads in the star are all polyester (Mettler). It also helps to close up any smaller gaps when you roll it as it starts to set up. Trout Head I'm a lover not a fighter and lately I don't do much of either, so you win. These are my first olive branches and I found the hardest thing was trying to keep the twist even. I used some masking tape to hold it together, then twisted to the right until I was happy, a couple of wraps of black in the center to lock it down and then reverse direction of the twist. The hardest part is trying to get the same amount of twist going in each. Mine are slightly off but should be better with the next one.

I like that Mark, very nice work mate. I hope you charged accordingly for that rod. Im glad I stopped doing those wraps years ago to specialize in weaves, they take to friggin long to do.

    Re: Almost finished

Thanks Stuart, you're right they do take a while but no longer than a decent weave.
This is a link to a really good tutorial on making an Olive Branch. I only found it myself yesterday.www.rodbuildingforum.com

Mate that is bloody awesome. I like these style wraps the best. How long did it take you?

    Re: Almost finished

Thanks everyone for posting comments. The wrap took quite a while to do because of the savage taper. There was a 10mm difference over the distance of the wrap which caused a few headaches getting it to close. Probably in excess of 10 hours wrapping but I reckon I would have spent 2-3 more just trying to get the packing right. With this one I have now CP'd it and I rolled it like many of the weavers do which closed it up even more. Just got the epoxy work to do now.

    Thanks again
