Use the search feature, type brisbane river threadfin or look through older estuary reports. There is dozens of posts, including all the info and locations.

Good luck extracting info Grant ....... those in the know are very protective of these little gems ( & jewies) .
I guess the best known and quite productive area would be around breakfast Ck ( landbased & boat based) - live prawns or Herring & lots of hours. While soaking a livie you could throw around a Jackall trans-am or threadybuster. They appear to be around all year but are usually targetted during the warmer periods.

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

YEs, I'm still trying to Get Nagg to share his secret spots for JEW and THREADIES.
I have Fished the river a few times this year and can say. Threadies are caught more towards October to March , In between is Jewies.

The Lure fellas tend to concentrate in areas located in front of whafts. So they would cast towards the whafts .

There is always a long wait between bite periods but most of the time i have caught within 30 minutes of arriving at my few spots i fish. I only fish bait as a matter of fact.

The swing basin is a good place to start

Common Nagg - Sharing is caring.
On a side note, The drop off at the oil terminal on the boggy creek side is a good start ( Just where the big ship docks) say 50meters from it's bow ). Or Just look for the boats anchored around there.

IF your really sneaky, Just pay attention to where the other boats are fishing, They are there for a reason.

I got 2 over a meter saturday night and yes you would have to pull teeth to get the exact location. threadfin of all sizes were very common in the river and have shown a marked decline especially in the larger size bracket, the problem for the threadfin is there all males till around 1m-120cm turning female, a few seasons back it was actually hard to catch them under a meter around the front wharves, hundreds or thousands have been removed in quiet a short timeline. you dont have to be a scientist to figure out what this means. probably not an extinction issue but certainly quality fishing is at risk. the jewies on the other hand have breeding stock spread offshore far and wide and in the bay, they are under no threat whatsoever and taste quiet a bit better than threadfin for what its worth

If your land based throw a prawn off the jetty, seen some decent ones caught there but you will have to get used to a lot of catfish and rays, lures can work ok to without the bycatch but in general if your just starting out try bait, ud need line around 20lb-30 in the trace as a lightest, they have a raspy jaw

    Re: Fishing for Threadfin

I've heard whispers that this wharf at Newstead fishes pretty well, not sure what species. Also most sp's work as long as they are at least 4 inches,
also blade lures fish pretty well to: TT switch blades are probably best. If your new try using fresh prawns around wharfs and Brekkie crk.
