Re: Garmin 750 VS Simrad NSS touchscreens

BEP, C zone, NSO, NSE, NSS and possibly a few I have missed, it's like being back at work with 3 letter acroyms everywhere.

Seriously though I did have a look at the Garmin 750 the other day and as much as I liked it I wondered about the screen and the the conditions it would need to encounter. My needs aren't that great and I don't want to spend mega bucks but I figure I have about 10 - 15 years left in me for offshore work and maybe get something that will last most of that time, after that I wil ldefinately be depending on others to go outside.

So to stop rambling will these touch screen last the yards.

I would go SIMRAD all the way. they really are top of the line in recreational boating. i read an good article about the NSS series in SFA. It stated that the sounder clarity and high resolution was truly exceptional. it also has a unique function when combined with structure scan is that you can actually overlay its 2d sounder image on top of a down scan image getting the best of defining structure but also seeing fish. the image shown was quite amazing. dont know how well this would go at deep depths but its downscan capability produces images that are apparently more rounded and give a 3d depth to the images. radar images can also be overlaid on chart display. glass screen is a good idea with salt crystals easily scratching plastic. pretty awesome bit of equipment if you ask me.
