Hi Waterbuoy,
The Simrad NSS range is about to add a completely new dimension to trailer boat electronics.
The existing Simrad NSO and NSE models have been aimed at the high end market, especially for yachting.
The NSO and NSE have many features essential to yachting, but not necessary for trailer boat fishing - that makes them more expensive and that's why you don't often see Simrad in recreational boating, until now.
The NSS has been aimed at the upper level of trailer boat fishing and is the next step up from Lowrance HDS.
The usability of the screen is amazing. It has been based on smart technology like the Apple Ipad / Iphone. This gives you touch technology, flick of fingers to zoom etc, one touch to enter waypoints, scroll accross screen with finger - not cursor etc etc etc.
The processor is a lot quicker than the Lowrance HDS
Navico own Simrad, as well as Lowrance & B&G. (Note, these are the three brands now available through Navico - Navman, Northstar and Eagle are now obsolete)
Yes, Navionics charts (including Platinum Charts) are used with Simrad.
The best feature?
GLASS SCREEN.
That way, no scratches like the composite screens when touched or cleaned.
They will interface with Lowrance HDS units via Ethernet / NMEA 2000.
All lowrance accessories will work on Simrad, including Radar, Structure Scan, Sonic Hun, Fuel Flow, Engine Management etc.
Simrad have autopilot as well, so they can be easily interfaced.
Broadband Sounder moduke "2"can be fitted to give 4kw sounding ability!
You can use BEP C-Zone accessories and can turn on/off Nav lights, cabin lights etc from your sounder.
The screens are easy to use and understand, very bright, excellent daylight viewing and waterproof.

Yeah, I like them.
Cheers
