I know there are a few Haines 17's out there. I'm looking at a 17l with a tandom trailer and a 115 four banger. Wondering what the weight might be. My Hi Lux is rated to 1800kg.

Re: All up weight of Haines 17L
Hey J.J.
Being a Victorian I suspect that you would know a "Boomerang 20" Trailer Sailer.
I had one quite a few years ago and towed it with an 18R petrol
Hi-Lux without any trouble.
Mind you it was not a wheel spinner but did the job. Some long road trips up the coast with all the gear for a week out on the reef.
I would suggest that something a bit bigger would be advisable for anything over about 1500kg.
You didn't define your motor or spec for your Hi-Lux so most of us are guessing a bit.
A bit of weight on the tray might help too.
Have fun Haji-Baba

Re: All up weight of Haines 17L
That's sounds good then. Dodgy There is one here with a strengthened hull and a 175 on the back. If it was an opti or similiar I'd go for it but a normal 2 stroke would use too much fuel for my intended use which is long distances into the southern ocean. Would I like to have one of these in Darwin! It must be fun where you are going past those platies at a rate of knots.

Re: All up weight of Haines 17L
J.J. Won many a race in My Boomerang out of Sandgate Yacht Club here in Brisbane.
As for weight, a big tool box up near the cab with all the usual junk we sometimes carry and a couple of batteries for your electric winch.
A water tank is also real good, easy to load, just turn the hose on, to empty just turn the tap on simple.
You will be pleased with a Haines, we have had two, now got a little 445c. for pottering around Bribie for a feed of fish.
Not too keen about going out too far now, the old legs give up after a while.
My son took me out last year in a good south westerly 18m miles off Caloundra and halfway back to Bribie I offered to walk home if he could just stop for a minute so I could get off.
Bl**dy rough.

Re: All up weight of Haines 17L
going by Jeff Websters mags the V17L is one of the all time greats, I was looking at them but the 5.2m was just a tad too big for me to beach launch by myself also the 22.5deg dead rise would make it harder to beach launch (the spearo's love them around here though)
my 16' Nova is 500kg dry weight after all the mods and the V17L is rated at 442kg, will have to do a final weight fully loaded now
great boat and have fun with one
cheers Murf

Re: All up weight of Haines 17L
Hey JJ
Mate I would be surprised if the package in race trim (fishing) came up to 1400 K's, would think 1200-1300 would be closer to the mark.
Old mate use to have one that I fished out of a few times and watched it in the water from my boat, they go very well, won't get close to the 19 but weight for age they do the job better than most in that size.
One thing I did not like about them was not having a anchor well outside the cab, about the only thing though.
Cheers
Bill
