Just bought a fcv-620 and P66 transducer, big step up from the lowrance x60. The transducer is twice the size. Will try it out next week cant wait.

Do I need to connect a ground wire to the screw at the back? Is this an earth or interference suppression? Why does the negative wire have a fuse as well as the positive?

ground wire is about reducing electrical interferance and protecting the nmea interface circuit. Generally it isn't connected on a non metal vessel. If you are interfacing to a GPS that has a ground wire then it pays to connect the ground of the 2 units. Fuse in negative is to protect the unit against an accidental +ve battery onto ground.
