New boat, what to buy?

HI all, I'm currently thinking about getting a new boat, looking for something in the 4.2-4.5 range, don't mind the configuration other than tiller steer. Looking mainly for something to get me into the bay and estuaries. budget is roughly 20 000 and lower. What wwould you buy or what have you bought.

Do you want glass or aluminium mate. If you want alloy have a look at the Stacers Northside marine are doing a few deals on these boats as well as have a good lot of second hand stuff to I have just bought my second boat off them Bill and the boys down there are great to deal with. http://www.northsidemarine.com.au/ the variety of open boats is never ending If it was me I would be looking at Stacer,Quintrex,and TABS boats Northside marine are also doing a Stacer 420 Busta BMT package with a 25HP 2 stroke and saftey gear for $7990 you could look at something like that then put some upgrades on it like bigger engine good quality sounder etc there is a boat show coming up in august at the convention centre The dealers put boat show specials on and you would be surprised as to what you can get. All I can say is shop around boat dealers are bending themselves sideways to sell boats ATM you are sure to pick up a great deal somewhere. Check out cunninghams marine aswell they have a shitload of new and used boats there may be something there to you might like to.

When you say new boat, is that brand new from the dealer or 'just a replacement'? I say that because looking tentaively about myself just now, I see prices softening and if you wanted a used, recent year model with low hours, boat - complete with warranties, you could grab yourself a decent deal. The caveat is that you either need to know what you are looking for, have a friend who does or have a survey done.

I believe you will be able to get a basic tiller steer set up in the Haines 485 SF ( or Seafare/Traveller ) in your price range - and you will not get a better handling hull in this size

I'm seriously considering selling my boat.

Would look at 12.5K plus which is a big drop on what it all cost me.
4.55 Sea Jay Magnum with 40hp Tohatsu 2 stroke oil injected sitting on a Dunbier Loader trailer.I bought the boat and fitted the outboard as well as getting a good centre console made up out of marine-grade alloy.It's got a colour Lowrance sounder/GPS combo & 27meg radio,also got a wooden rod rack across the back (easily removed) with slots and a couple of Scotty holders + one tube holder,with another available to fit.The whole lot was bought new and just sat in my shed for a couple of years.I've only used the whole thing 3 times and am still running in the motor (done 3 hours).I was going to fit it out a bit more etc but health & wealth reasons are making me seriously consider selling it .A very nice outfit that you could customize a bit to suit you.It's all as new.Be fantastic up north! Looking at $12,500+ and will lose money but so be it.Also I'm in Victoria.

Look at Polycraft,had mine for 9 years and crossed surf bars for most of that,not a pretty boat, but tuff and good sea boat for its size.Stable and quiet also.

Scotto, would this be within jumbo,s price range of sub 20? Looks like a nice rig and very customizable.

As a fellow seajay owner, I'd suggest you have a look at moater's boat. Only thing I'd change would the the 2strk for a 4strk - but thats a personal choice. 12.5k seems a pretty good price. I love my seajay (4.4 escape sports SC 40 yammie 4strk) and have no trouble recommending the brand. My only regret is not going the 4.55.
