I've always had Makos or Spotters found them great, go the glass lens instead of the plastic or polycarbonate - they will last alot longer. I prefer the bronze coloured lens for use on the water, spotting reef, fish etc. compared to the grey or smoke colours. Have prescription sunnies now

Thanks La Vida, might give the Maui Jims ago next time. Damn getting older hey Tim, adds another $100+ to the price of your new sunnies - just put a scratch in my new pair smack bang in the middle of the right lens.......

i have a pair of maui jims and they are awesome quality and fantastic polarising ability. amazing how far i can see in the water with them. I do love them but hate trying to keep from losing them or damaging them. The particuler model i got are quite heavy with all the glass lenses and high density plastic and have had a tandancy to fall off my skinny head so for fishing i would suggest a light frame pair with glass lenses if you have a skinny head like mine.

Gill Sunglasses have sets that float. I have a set, probably not the best quality arround, but for $70 odd bucks, and no danger of watching them sink away, pretty good.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this, but I think, unless you need prescription lenses, the whole expensive sunglasses--fashion statements--is a big wank.
I am 69 years old, and have had new lenses in my eyes for about one year. I enjoy the freedom now to use non prescription sunglasses, without reading lenses for the first time in about 20 years. To celebrate I bought a new pair of extra special "Raybans" from the optometrist. Cost --about $180. Very happy--until I went to Bankok, and bought far better Raybans, in various coloured lenses(the gold is fantastic) that can't be bought in Aus. with a great drawstring soft bag, just the thing for a boat, for ---Wait for it---less than $ 15 per set.
Have never used the Aussie bought ones since.
We are ripped off hugely.

I'm glad you're happy with your $15 sunnies (copies are my bet) - I know plenty of people that are happy with their $10 market stall ones too !
The reality is ( with no disrespect) that true high quality sun glasses are expensive where ever you buy them ...... be it in the US , Europe , Asia or Australia ...... it doesn't matter , they might be a bit cheaper than in Oz (market size) but they will still cost $100-$300 .... unless you buy a discontinued line. Quality lenses just dont come cheaply.

The way I see it ..... you only have 1 pair of eyes , so they are worth protecting

I only got a 2nd pair because the 1st are on the bottom of a runaway canal!

I like the Makos and just picked up a new pair on ebay last week for $122.

I went through this process a little while ago. I tried most of the majors and bought another pair of Spotter Penetrators in Thunder frames. They fit my rough old head better than most and I have always been happy with their visual performance. I think its important to check out several options as personal preferance means one pair of glasses do not fit all
