Northstar 538 keeps saying "voltage less than 10v"?
I have wired my Northstar GPS up and have made sure all connections are very good, most wires are not used. In the wiring instructions it has Basic Power setup which I have followed. Because I don't have AUTO POWER OFF enabled I wired the black two wires and the yellow wires together and put them on my NEGATIVE bus bar and the red power cable to the switch panel as per instructions. Simple exercise really ! I get a message on the unit when I power up saying "voltage is less than 10.00v". I hit enter and it goes away but I think it doesn't allow you to zoom as much or something? I pulled the wiring apart and made sure that all was perfectly joined but the same message comes up ..... can any-one help please? My batteries is 12.49v at the moment but I have even tried it with the motor going and still the same. All my other electrics work great.

hey rumy1
connect your multimeter/volt meter to the connections that you have made and measure the voltage at that point. this will confirm if the message is true. and has it got a inline glass fuse anywhere?? if so try bypassing it for a test as they can give voltage drop.
cheers cr

I've got the same unit, and it actually doesn't have a voltmeter in it (despite having the settings for one). If you go into the menu, you can disable the battery warning. You'll find it under "Alarms".

I actually rang the local dealer and he said to bring the unit in for testing. He will test it on the spot and if anything is wrong it will be warranty. I will let you know how I go.
I did remove the glass fuse and tested the volts entering the unit which was over 12v. There maybe a break in the wiring in the wiring harness, tomorrow will tell.

OK ... good outcome ..... he plugged the unit into a 12v supply, switched it on and same message for him. He went into MENU and done a system reset and KABOOM ... problem fixed !!! He said it must have been a glitch or something, he wasn't sure why it was doing it. This service was FREE of charge so thanks MODERN MARINE in Gladstone.

Hey Rumy1... I was wrong...
I'm glad that you got it working. Any idea of what reset they did on it?
I was led to believe, after reading on the internet, that this model didn't have that feature. Why would the internet be so cruel and lie to me... it had to be true .

Doesn't give a lot of confidence in the product does it?
