    Ques For Northstar Users

G'day everyone. Just a quick one for any of you expereinced with northstar gps units and data transfer. My old man has a 5 inch 2 year old northstar unit in his boat. All his waypoints etc are an absolute mess (not real technically minded my old man, when you see fish just hit the man overboard!!). Anyway, i thought i might tidy it up for him when i'm down the farm next. I see that northstar has some free software on their internet site. Does it work ok? Can i just use SD cards to transfer? Any tips from northstar users experience with this would be good.

I've used the humminbird and garmin stuff allot, just never really messed with northstar.

Sorry not sure about their own software, but I use PC planner to manage all of my points for my Navman/Northstar. If you use C-Map in your plotter its a worthwhile investment as you get the program, a card reader and a C-Map SD card to store and transfer points.

It gives you a chart of the world to load on your PC that enables you to zoom in on detail when you insert your C-Map area card. You can also transfer from your PC back to any plotter that compatable.

Now is a good time to buy with the high dollar as I paid double (in 2007) the price they are now. Bought mine from the US (fish-on marine ) now $179 with C-Map SD card.

Malcolm, thanks for that. Given its the old mans unit/data i'll research the freeby some more but i may have to go the pc planner if the free stuff isn't the go. Thanks for that.
