Shimano TLD 25 lever Drag problems.

Can anyone help, my TLD 25 lever drag will not increase drag - as you would expect by increasing the lever tension.
No mater where the drag is set, ( and I do return to freespool before increasing ) the drag cannot be increased by standard adgustment, screwing in the centre drag knob, or even pushing the lever forward from half way to full, the drag will not increase.
I have stripped the reel completely, and with manual drawings to follow, have re-assmbled exactly part for part. It has a little improved, but cannot for example adjust the drag to near lockup, very tight.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Cheers

Thanks Trueblue, I will check, where is it positioned, behind the lever ?
Is it named so on the schematic diagram ?

There are experts (and many, many build pictures of the TLD's being serviced) on this site http://alantani.com/ but if it was my reel I would be looking firstly at the drag washer to see if offers drag resistance.

They changed the construction of the cams on the silver handle Malaysian built ones from the old black handle Jap ones. They chew out a lot easier now.

How did it happen......did you store it on sunset for a period of time?

had a similar problem on another lever drag reel, found out that my old man when re-greasing the real put some on the gold piece just inside the lever drag (not sure on its name, but its the piece directly under the screwcap on the lever) this was making it slide and not lock down as it should.

Thanks whiteman, I saw the alantani .com rebuild, where he puts grease ( Drag Grease - Whatever that is ! )
Also have read many articles which says do not put grease on this part of the drag, ( The large white drag washer ).

So still a little confused, just hoping to find someone who had the same problem, who found the solution.

    Thanks Smithy,
Checked mine, and yes it is made in Malaysia, and has silver arm to handle, the drag washer looks in excellent clean condition.
Still puzzled as to why drag does not increase as I push up the lever.

On my new tld25 and my older tld 20 if I set the drag up to 10lb at strike it will increase up to 16lb at sunset and no more. If I start at 16lb at strike it remains at that. Its just not capable of more drag than that in std form.

Madai, I grease my drags but I have put carbontex drags ordered from here www.jackerskine.com/. Jack sells Cals grease which is the one that Alan Tani recommends. I do my TLD's annually and they are silky smooth. I use them a lot for trolling and they are much better at setting the drag since I upgraded to Carbontex. The tutorials on Alan's site are spot on, step-by-step how to service these things. Have a pot of blue grease (same as you use for trailer bearings) with a small paint brush. A bit of light oil as well and you can do the lot in around 30 minutes a reel.

good point - did you grease your original shimano drag washer? that would kill all your drag - I made that mistake only once...............
