Furuno make great sounders and I am a huge fan of Furuno. I do hesitate at their GPS.
I found the GPS Furuno GP7000F, but did not find a SF580 ?
The GP 7000F is a combo......... IMO.... you lose power to that, you lose your sounder AND GPS.... not fun in that ? IMO again.... 2 separate units are the go.
IMO...... and this all depends on what area you fish.
Furuno FCV 620 sounder and a Garmin GPSMAP 521.
Also depends on your budget..........
Cheers phill

I did a bit of research and asking around with the same question when i bought my electronics late last year and i got a heap of mixed answers, no doubt swayed by peoples own set ups. A common trend with nearly all the people i spoke to was that their sounders are top tier, a really good and proven product but as for their GPS units the answers were not so good for the Furuno. Things like moisture in the unit and the unit leaking like a sieve were common answers i got. Both from people that run them and retailers that sell them.Another common response was that the quality of cartography available for the Furuno was below par when compared to Garmin that use their own charts.
I ended up buying a Furuno FCV 585 sounder and a Garmin 4010 GPS chartplotter.
I'm definately no marine electronics expert, these are just the answers i got when i was looking.
Good luck with it all.
I doubt the GP7000 will run for much longer. It has been around for a while. I notice it isn't on the Furuno japan site anymore. Least i can't find it. Until they come up with a GPS based on the 585 package I think they are up against it for a small plotter. None of their larger plotters are designed for open boat applications. i.e. they aren't waterproof. I think unless you want to buy a navnet system and you have a full cabin to put it in you would need to look at another brand.
That is an awesome set-up Muddy Toes. Bet ya happy with that. ?

Yeah so far i'm pretty happy with it.Big screens, lots of pretty colours, buttons and noises....keeps me amused for hours.I believe they call it "all the gear and no idea".It's all pretty new to me so i've got Bill Corten setting it up in a few weeks time so i'm not floundering around offshore like a doodle when all you blokes are catching fish during the M&G.
