What Caused my Rod to snap?

    Hi everyone,
Just want to see people's thoughts as to what would have caused my rod to snap during casting last night.

    Rod is a Wilson-Supergraph Rock/Beack 13'6"

I've had this rod for 18 months to 2 years now and have found it to be a very good rod.
Around christmas time i needed a new tip so i took it to a local shop for a new tip.Couple of days later throwing slugs off the end of tweed wall during the floods the tip came off mid cast and somehow caused the centre of the third guide to be rippped out as well. Was not going to take it back to where i got the tip done as it only lasted about 6 casts.
Took it to another local shop to get the tip and guide replaced.
When i picked the rod up i could see the the job gluing the guide on was pretty ordinary but i thought it's for the beach so doesn't need to be a work of art.
Have being fishing with it for about 4 weeks now and it hasn't didn't feel or cast right.
Anyway last night during casting i heard that sound that will break your heart.
Could it be the way i cast?(start with rod in front of you and swing back over shoulder to load up and then do a normal cast).
Or could it be something to do with the repairs i had done?
Or is it just bad luck?

Mate sorry to hear about your rod tip repair.
You can do the repair/replacement your self using 5min alderite. The repairer may have used a glue stick/hot stick glue to secure the tip which is OK but the alderite is more secure and safer especially when casting slugs.
In regards to the rod breaking can put down to a few issues:
    1. The rod may have received a sharp hit on a rock or another sharp edged object and caused a internal fracture (for graphite blanks especially)which is not visible on the outside to the human eye? or
    2. A to tight under or over bind can cause damage to the blank?
    3. If there is no underbind, the leg of the guide may cause damage to the blank?

There maybe other issues that caused the rod to break and other experts may be able to add to this post.
I do not .profess to be an expert and the three causes I have noted are my own opinion.

Hoping this post may shed some light to the issues of graphite rods.

    It is just bad luck

It would be a brave man to blame the rod repairer for the cause of the rod breaking as a lot of us do not treat our rods with the respect that is required by just laying it down on rocks or other hard surfaces etc.

Could be ? , when the first time guide was fixed , heat was used to get the epoxy off , then bound , second time more heat used , maybe to much , that in turn weakened the blank , looking at the photo it is strange to see the rod finish look like a sleeve .

    Thanks Guys,
It would be hard now to find out what caused it if it was myself or something to do with the repairs which i doubt now.
I still would not use either of the shops as i didn't get a good job at either.I will have to learn to do repairs myself now to have peace of mind.
I have a feeling after talking to a couple of guy's that the sinker may have hit the rod when it was loaded up but will never know.
Ah well looks like i will have to get a new rod now

Look where the break is. Right at the end of the guide foot. 99:1 it was the repair.

    Yeah,
I think i enjoy buying tackle more than fishing sometimes.
Got a new Live Fibre on the weekend on sale which was good.
