Gday,
I'm lucky that i get to travel to some interesting places for work. Most of the time it's out west and pretty boring with limited fishing oppurtunities. However, this time i managed to snare my second trip to South Alligator in the Kakadu National Park. I normally fish a local drain for little barra, however this time there wasnt much water left and a sizable croc had taken up residence so didnt fish there much but after four days of work with long hours i took a drive north-east to Cahills crossing up towards Ubirr Rocks. I managed to catch a few small undersize barra with sebile hardbodies on the crossing which was good fun. Guy next to me got a near legal one on his first cast using a riedys soft plastic. Quite a few people fishing the crossing. All released.
The next day i left south alligator and KNP and travelled west to Corroboree Billabong which is a forty k long expanse of water that fills when the mary floods in the wet. I jumped on a charter Top end Barra Fishing with Kurt with three other guys. i was blown away by the amount of wildlife in this billabong, eagles, brolgas, jabirus, herons, kingfishers, wild pigs, freshwater crocs and a heap of salties lying on nearly every hard bank. Three of us managed to catch a legal barra each with a few small undersize ones thrown in. One didnt managed to catch any at all which was shame. Kurt tried hard to put us onto some nice fish but i couldnt believe how cold it was. water temp was really low at 23 degrees. I had a jumper on till about 10.30 am. So the fishing was quite slow but the scenery was just amazing. What a place. met up with some guys in darwin who fished the daly in the barra nationals and they got onto some very nice fish so hopefully one day i will get another crack in gods country.
Cheers
anyway, back to work.
