Thumbs up A week at 1770

I spent the week before last, fishing the beaches and rocks to the south of 1770 in the Deepwater National Park. I camped at WrecK Rock and fished at the ‘catwalk’ at 1770 and also at Middle Rock and Flat Rock. I fished mainly with soft plastics and swapped around with big, small, heavy and light jigheads and also spun a few slugs, when I saw the schools of Tuna coming in close.

I caught plenty of Dart, Whiting, Bream and a few Trevally. There were a few bite offs and bent hooks but the fishing was quite tough. The light but cold westerly winds made for beautiful conditions but might have put the fish off. One guy spun up a nice mac tuna off the beach, to the south of Wreck Rock and also got a few Tailor on fresh Pike baits, after dark, in the same spot.

I did not catch a single Tailor, but only fished in daylight. I would place us right in the change over period from summer to winter species. I had a great week but would love to go back in a months time, when the water will have cooled and the Bream and Tailor will be really munching. I attach a few pics - for more details have a look at the blog:
