Best Rod for Talica 12II

Hi Guys,

I have been searching everywhere for the good rod match for the Talica 12II that I have recently bought. Been to the Tacklewarehouse, and no luck finding much that suits.

Main uses for the reel for are Red Emperor / Trout / Big Snapper running 65-80lb braid.

I have looked at the Daiwa Monster Mesh & T-Curve 400 Jig stick, though they are both broom sticks. I have a T-Curve 200 Jig stick and it feels a little light. I hate all the Live Fibres as they have such a short butt and are heavy. I will be using it more with bait than jigs, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Calstar Grafighter 700h built by Garry Howard for the same job. Originally I got a spin version 700xh thanks to the recommendation of a couple of blokes on here and had the second one built 12months later. Do a search on here.

I prefer the longer 6'6"-7' rods over the short jig rods generally unless actually jigging. The Torsa I use also balances(feels) better on the thicker type rod rather than a skinny jigger.

Have a look at www.spinalrods.com series 2 tuna blanks , makes one hell of a Red Emperor , the 200 gr or 300 gram , both excelent . lots of power in the butt with a nice action in the tip , pm me if you want more info .

Tracked down the Calstar Grafighter rods by Gary Howard. Expensive though fit the bill perfectly. Appreciate the help

What is the weight on those Calstars? Pretty sure they are similar ratio of graphite to glass as a live fibre. If so then the weight might be an issue if you have discounted livies for that reason.

The main reason for discounting the live fibre is the short butt on the rod. You can't get the butt of the rod under arm when feeding line out on the rod. I have considered striping the live fibres and moving the reel set up the blank, though is too expensive.
