Thread: Calstar build

    Calstar build

Garry or Punkin on this site wanted me to put some pics up of the rod I built him. There is no weaves or crosswrap patterns because the rod was built to a set budget. The blank is a Calstar GF7460M with an Aftco grey reel seat, Leather grip and Perfection ball gimble. The guides are HNSG and a UST tip. I dont normally post pics of my work but here ya go.

    Stuart,

    Time to pick your brain.
How do you get the transition from the blank to the grip & how do you find the leather grips with wet & slimmy hands.

Sometimes a rod doesn't need all the trims, winding checks, weaves, cross wraps etc. This is one of those. Looks great just as it is. Nice work.

    Jerson .

I use a metal lathe for all my grip work mate. The front of the grip is shaped like that long before the leather or thread is put down.
