    gps advice

My mate has just picked up a new boat and it has furuno electronics fitted to it, I am use to the lowrance and am not finding the furuno very user friendly. The first problem is we cant get a clear look at the bottom, even on the automatic settings eg. fishing/cruising it shows a terrible picture I know setting it up manually should get a better picture than auto but I am sure the basic settings have to be better then what it is. All I can think is the right transducer isnt selected it the unit so it isnt reading the info from the transducer properly. This is my guess as I have tried everything I can but am by no means an expert. Ssecondly When entering gps coordinates it is asking for too many numbers.for eg. my coordinates read 18 47 290 s 123 62 720e (not actual coordinates haha) but it is set up as 00 00'00.00s 000 00'00.00e should I just make the extra numbers 0 or can this be changed as well. There are more problems as well but if we can get these sorted and at least find the spots and see the bottom we will be on our way to finding some fish. Any advice would be great. Thanks

    1. 18 47 290 etc is a different format to 00 00' 00.00s

    2. One device needs to be changed to reflect a common format (read manual etc)
