    Mercury Four Stroke

Has anyone out there had any experience with Mercury four strokes in the 150 HP upwards range.

Just keen to see how they perform, how fuel effecient they are, reliability.

great engines, look good, go good, but they are somewhat heavy compared to every other make.

    Hi Mickol,

I have a 115HP 4 stroke. Not quite the same engine that you are enquiring about. I have the folliwing to offer:

    The good:
Have done 130 hrs in the first year and never had an issue
    Fuel economy is brilliant
First service was $280 whihc was pretty good

    The not so good:
my 115 HP was not smartcraft ready (enabled yes - but cost $800 to put it in, sensors etc)
If it is smart craft ready then it will cost approx $700 to buy a guage that enables the data to be read through an NMEA 2000 sounder etc (other brands are just a harness)

If guages are enough, or if you dont want angine data on your sounder then Mercs are great.

This was my only regret. Although the difference is offset by price I found.

    Regards Adam
