    Charter Cancelled

So i was invited on a charter with a mate of mines business outing, Booked for tomorrow (Wednesday), Have watched the weather since saturday for him, He called me this morning and asked my opinion, i said it will be ok, Not flat a little choppy, He says ok no probs. He then calls me back an hour later to say the charter company has just called and the skipper is concerned about a 5 metre sea running and it will be blowing 25-30 in the afternoon??????

So i went back to all my weather sites to recheck, absolutely no where can i find a weather report that looks any where near this.......am i not looking correctly????

Or does he just not want to go, its a big boat, a long time operator. what weather is he looking at and why does he want to cancel??? At this stage i wont name the charter but can assure everyone that not only me but the rest of his clients and staff cannot understand why he would cancel. This is the first time in 5 years he has changed charter companies as the previous charter had sold his business.

Give me your thoughts on the weather.

    Cheers Lee

Phill Yep seen all of those, Leaving from Scarborough.
I cannot fathom why he cancelled. A joke as far as i am concerned was looking forward to a fish. I havent had that many oppurtunities lately to fish, even better when im not driving and can have a couple of drinks. AH well might just head up the creek in my tinny.

    Re: Charter Cancelled

I guess to be fair, unless you actually go and have a look, then a forecast is just that, a forecast, a prediction, not the gospel truth, the operator may have been down to the boat and the swell is up, but then again, maybe he just does not want to go for some reason.

    Re: Charter Cancelled

I was out yesterday and the swell was decreasing, was NO WHERE near 5 metres around moreton or wide caloundra.

He did not fish today as he did not have a booking, i just dont know where he gets his weather info from, If it does blow i would like to know where, if it doesnt then maybe he needs to get his weather report elsewhere.

    Re: Charter Cancelled

There's a severe weather warning for SEQ out for this afternoon, maybe he is concerned what effect that might have for tommorrow? Or maybe he has better things to do...

    Re: Charter Cancelled

My thoughts matt maybe he has another business that he can make some better coin off......maybe, when he cancelled at 9am this morning there were no warnings at all.

    Re: Charter Cancelled

A lot of charter blokes say weather but what they really mean is crew or mechanical/ electrical issue.

Weather is out of their control so clients take it beter . I'd rather be told straight and early not messed around. At least you got some notice not ending up on a wharf.

I've seen a lot of charters that involve bars get cancelled over the years and thought what a bunch of wimps only to see the bar in terrible states at teh times the boats would have tried returning. Eat my thoughts on those days and listen to eperienced local skippers when in those areas a sthey get it right a lot more than wrong. Apart from that for there insurance they can often not leavev the wharf if strong wind warnings are about even if not exactly in the area they fish.
