My first marbled rod
Hi all , hope you had a good easter , so here is my first marbled rod , it is a Spinal series 2 - 300 gram blank , The pigments are from bullards , I did not find this easy , but I learn't a lot doing it , getting the timing right was a bit hard , I did a lot of practice but then you just have to give it a go . over all I am happy with the way it turned out , I hope the photos come out ok , learning that too . any way any pointers would be great , Thanks Ian

Re: My first marbled rod
Ian, Really nice job. The colours are great. I learnt a few little tricks that have helped me but I'm not proposing to be an expert in these. Timing is everything. Too soon and the pigments run too much and too late and there is very little run.
I mix up a batch of epoxy and divide it into the dominant colour + whatever other colours you want to mix. Obviously the dominant colour should contain the most epoxy. Get a nice creamy consistancy. I apply mine with a needle, tooth pick and a feather. The feather gives a realy nice crooked line effect with varying thicknesses. If you find the epoxy is setting too quickly, heat is slightly but not too much or it will all run together. Another little trick is to do an underbind in your dominant colour and after epoxing that, then add your various coloured pigments. This way the dominant colour stays"dominant" and only the pigments run.
I hope this helps a little but there's nothing wrong with what you have done. Looks great to me!
Regards
Mark

Re: My first marbled rod
That is some fabulous work, I wish I could do half as good a job.
I've been taking inspiration from a guy from Portugal, Nuno, or 7evenSeas on the rodbuilding forum. Some of his marbling is awesome.
