    Wiring A Spotlight

I Have A 400000cp Spotlight And Want To Wire It.

I Dont Want To Run It Throught My Electricial Box.

I Was Going To Wire Straight To Battery With An Inline Fuse.

Is This Ok And What Size Fuse.

    Cheers

    Greg,
Why dont you want to go thru the Electricial Box????

And yes there's no real reason why you cant wire it up straight to the battery.
A 15 or 20 amp fuse should do it.

Perfect way to go...but no problem also plugging into a good quality ciggy socket or 2 pin rated maybe 15A or better. Best to replace old sockets/plugs for something like a spottie i reckon. The plugs that come with them have a history of melting too. Straight to the batt is a good way to go.
Sounds like one of those handheld halogens, if it is be aware they're thirsty and the wiring that comes with them is often pretty average.
I'd be using 6mm wire and maybe a 15A inline fuse but check the equipment for recommended fuse size. 4mm wire is a bit light if its a big old halogen spottie which it sounds like...plus u dont want to starve it. If its a monster or an old one you're a bit iffy about maybe think about 25A Anderson plugs.

    There's a few questions first.
What size bulb (wattage) is in the light as the 400,000cp rating means nothing to those who work out wire sizes and fuse sizes and types of plugs etc?
How long is the lead, or how long are you wanting the lead to be?

Straight to the battery is OK if you want and a good way to alleviate overloading the wiring to your existing fuse box if it hasn't been installed as to allow for the extra current a spotlight uses ie small wires from the battery to the fuse box.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
