I have also had a number of symmetre Fl , for a number of years , that are still going well.
For most bang for your buck though , I think you would have to go the Stradic.

I have the symetre4000. it has been in use for a few years and is a good reel.
Unfortunately it is the reel that is binding up.
I still havnt pulled it down yet to see what the problem is. Tomorrow,I hope.
For under $200, I'd go for Stradics. Or the Japanese domestic market 2008 Shimano Biomaster, which has an identical body and identical schematics to the Australian market Twinpower FC (and I mean identical - they obviously used the same diagram if you compare them, but for one tiny ball bearing at one end of the worm gear) - only they sell for about half the price in Asia (ebay and Plat).

Most common cause for the symetres binding up is the soft rubber friction ring under the rotor. If you use some of the spray oils on them they swell marginally and put too much friction on the rotor. I suspect that it is Inox that did the damage to three of my reels, replaced the friction rings and kept the inox away and it has not occurred again.
