    Building a Heavy Spin Rod

    Hi Guys

I'm looking at building a 7' 15-24kg spin rod for my 8000 sniper running 80lb braid. Main purpose of it will be for bottom bashing but I would still like it to cast a half decent distance if required. What I'm not sure about is the guides. I'm thinking of using Fuji MNSG 30,20,16,12,12,12,12 and 12 tip. Am I on the right track or have I missed it completely and ended up in a ditch

    Thanks
    Glenn

I use the MNSG guides on my popper tossing rods from 50lb through to 130lb. I think you will be all right with the 15-24kg model. You might want to go alittle longer than 7ft, maybe 7'6" would be a better length for both bottom fishing and tossing lures/poppers.

I'll be keen to hear the ideas on this one. I'm thinking of doing the same with CMNSG guides and at the moment was looking at 6 guides and a tip for a 5 foot 8 rod. Sizes 40, 25, 20, 16, 12, 10 and a 10 tip.

I was told I'd need a big stripper guide.

6 guides for that length rod would be spot on. Who ever told you that a size 40 stripper would be to small isnt a rod builders a hole mate. I use size 40 strippers on everything from surf rods to my 130lb popper tossing rods and have no issues at all. In fact I have found after what seems like millions of hours testing guide sizes that a size 40 is the best size. I can cast further with a 40 than I can a 50 wire frame because the line slap on the blank is reduced dramatically. I would also recommend you take out the 20 and replace it with the 16 you have, then add one more 12. That would now give you a 40, 25,16,12,12,10,10 tip. Thats pretty much my guide sizes on such rods.

Sorry mate I confused you a bit. I was told a 40 size is the one to use as a stripper guide. My comment was comparing to the original post where a 30 was mentioned vs the 40 I was told.
    50 sounds huge!!

    Cheers, Mark.

I would use the new kw series guides if you want casting distance ,but i'm not sure of there weight capacities. they should work well on 15-24.Once you use these you wont use any other as the casting distance gained was 5-10m on 7 ft spin rod compared to fuji titanium silicons single foots on same rod.
