    Humminbird

Looking at new 596c HD DI Humminbird from OS does anyone own one and your thoughts on the unit. Does the Humminbirds have geofencing built into unit similar to Lowrance ? Does the unit read only in imperial measures? and does the navionics card work well in this unit ? any thoughts or advice will be much appreciated,Just a side note purchase price will be approx $ 590 with shipping.

    Stik-ugly,

I have just installed the 596cHD DI in my boat. This model doesn't have GPS, imperial read out only, i'm old enough not to care. Just getting used to it but so far very impressed. Lots of information on the screen with a high pixel count. Down Imaging will be very handy once i get my head around it. I paid 640 for mine, delivered,in January.

Make sure Chart Select is set to auto

    Chart Select
    Chart Select
allows you to choose which chart to
use if you have built-in charts or a map card. If you select Auto, you unit will
    select a chart automatically.

To activate or de-activate Chart Select:
    1. Highlight Chart Select on the Navigation main menu.
    2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to select which chart to use.
    (Default = Auto)

    Stik,

Took the boat out in the river on the weekend, very happy with the new sounder. Using white line is easy to tell bottom hardness. Motor at 30kph using conventional sounder when you see something of interset run over the area again with the split screen or down imaging screen. The down imaging takes away a lot of the clutter on the screen. Great for bait fish. I haven't had it in the bay so i'm yet to find out what it's like in 10 - 20 metres.

    Jerson.
