    Blue Garmin fish symbols

Ok, have to display my ignorance and ask. Normally our Garmin 750S displays fish symbols in an orange colour, but last time out we had larger blue fish displaying (yes I know I have to learn to read the sounder properly), just wondering if anyone knows why they are blue? And no, I don't think they're depressed

    Cheers

Mate - it may be that the larger ones are orange and the smaller ones blue or the other way around. Can I recommend the Rick Huckstep video and book on reading your sounder. I was a fish display man until I read/saw that stuff and now I am miles ahead and can read what I see (generally).

I haven't got used to my new Garmin 5021 sounder yet which would be similar to the 750s I guess.
My previous Furuno units displayed different colours from fish echos dependent on the return signal strength and then combined with the shape, depth or dispursment of the showing I could determine what it was likely to be.

The colours representing signal strength vary from brand to brand and model to model so it is just something to become familiar with your unit as you fish and match the fish with what it displayed like.

Just reading your post again, I get the impression that you are looking at fish icon symbals rather than standard soundings.
I have never used them but I would imagine that as said it would indicate a weaker or stronger signal and therefore could represent a difference in depth or power you are running or size of fish or other factors.

If you are using the unit displaying fish icons on the screen, although it is a perhaps graphically easier to see, I recommend that you try and use the sounder and display normal echo data because there is a lot more that it will tell you once you know what you are looking at. But that takes time and using the equipment.

Just some pics from a recent trip off Caloundra Wide. This is a school of Pearl Perch and Teraglin with some Snapper with multple passes over the same ground.
