Re: Shooters & Fishers in NSW

I am now and have been for a couple of years a paid up member of the Shooters and Fishers party, this is despite the fact that I don't own a gun, don't have a gun license and don't shoot.

I looked at the various options and the Shooters and Fishers seemed the most viable of the various parties that supported the views I wanted put forward.

I own and use a Nissan crew cab 4x4 and I go 4 wheel driving, many S&F members own and use 4x4's and are sympathetic to restrictions upon their use whether that use is shooting related or not.

I own and use a Fishing boat and go fishing, many S&F are keen fisherman and that is reflected in the name change and yes in the fact that they realized they needed to broaden the parties market appeal.

I own and use a 650 trail bike, whilst I'm not aware of many S&F members with trail bikes I believe that trail bike riders share many issues of concern with 4x4 owners.

    Bottom line?

The Shooters and Fishers party seemed to be one of the few 'outdoors' type parties that were willing to put aside factional differences and attempt to include groups that weren't exactly the same demographic as their original founding ground and I think that it's essential that those groups work together if they (we!) are to stop the Greens further encroaching upon our patch.

Pauline Hanson will be the member at port stephens? I might move back there!, still Bob K is my member here, makes the decision that much harder LOL!

I welcome anything that shakes up the quazi democracy we have been under for near 20 years, at the very least a little of my birthright back would be nice to offer a little real free choice to my child's future....have lost so much

You are wrong, Pauline has missed out due to preferences. Looks like the liberals might get it. but hopfully not the greens

Really doesn't matter who gets it because the Libs will control the upper house with support from S&F and Fred Nile.

KC can you tell me if at 19 seats they need the support of S&F and Nile's mob, or, they need the support of S&F or Fred's mob, cause there's a big difference between the two.
    I don't know the situation with the Speaker in the NSW Upper House but the final results are Lib/Nat have 19 - ALP 14 - Greens 5 - Christ/Dem 2 - F&S 2

This was on the Courier's web site today

"The Coalition government has fallen short of a majority in the house, having 19 of its 42 seats.
Labor has 14 seats, the Greens five, the Christian Democrats two and the Shooters and Fishers party two.
This means the government will need the support of at least one of the minor parties if Labor opposes any legislation."

It needs both S & F and Nile. S&F have a history of not being "welded on" to either side so, having always played a bit "hard to get" they can now choose to help the conservatives get legislation through. Labor and the Greens are in opposition alliance, to a degree Fred Nile and the conservatives are the conservative side and S&F are the balance. If you are never going to be "in government" or in a formal coallition...then the current position is akin to the political "keys to the kingdom of heaven"
From my understanding a tied vote is a "loss" as far as the passage of a bill. It certainly is Federally and I assume the same in NSW. A bill needs to pass, not have a tied vote.

    so 19 Conservatives + 2 christian democrats = 21

    Labor/Green = 19

S&F will determine if a bill passes or is rejected.
